It was really fulfilling to capture the best moments of the program through my own lens and through the perspectives of the students.”
- Lucy, UBC Future Global Leaders student life coordinator for marketing and communications
For Lucy, a fourth-year UBC student studying Neuroscience and a Master of Management, Future Global Leaders offered the chance to combine two of her interests: working with young people and exploring the world of marketing.
As the student life coordinator for marketing and communications, Lucy had a front-row seat to the energy of Future Global Leaders. She captured the summer as it unfolded, creating social media content and sharing the moments that made the program an unforgettable experience for students. As her first marketing role, it also gave her hands-on experience in content creation, social media marketing and audience analytics.
One of the most memorable parts of the role was seeing students bring their own interests and creativity to the program. During the Social Media Influencer contest, Lucy met a student whose winning entry showcased his skills in filming, editing and colour grading. She could see how proud he was of the finished video, and when she asked if he was interested in film and videography in the future, he was eager to say yes. For Lucy, it was exciting to think that “this recognition from UBC of the project he created may be one of the building blocks to jumpstart a future career.”
From her experience with Future Global Leaders,Lucy has one piece of advice for students: embrace the opportunity to get a taste of university life. “You get to live in a real freshman dorm, eat dining hall food with your friends, and immerse yourself in campus life without the actual pressure of university!”
