Build awareness around the ways in which white supremacy manifests as our workplaces grow more diverse, and take a close look at the impact that white supremacy has on both individuals and systems. Reflect on the tensions between the desire to champion anti-racism while experiencing the privileges that whiteness confers.

How can you implement systems-level change from an equity design perspective? How do you practically apply design practices to address inequities in workplaces and industries? Applying the data-driven strategies and frameworks from the first course of the UBC Micro-Certificate in Equitable Systems Design (ESD), learn how to practically implement equity-centered solutions in your workplace and industry context. You will build a systems design toolkit leading to an equitable systems design roadmap presentation to the course facilitation team to transform your organization and industry’s impact.

The Associateship in Equitable Systems Design is an advanced, participatory program that welcomes graduates of the following UBC certificate and micro-certificate programs: UBC Certificate in Intercultural Studies, UBC Certificate in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, UBC Micro-certificate in Anti-Racism, UBC Micro-certificate in Diversity and Inclusion, and the UBC Micro-certificate in Equitable Systems Design. Designed as a next step for those continuing to grow their practice as educators, facilitators, consultants, and individuals advancing equity and intercultural skills in their everyday work, this program supports learning and leadership across roles and contexts.

How can equitable systems design transform your workplace and the industry you work in? How can we (re)design systems and sectors that impact not only workplaces and individuals but also industries, sectors and society? Spanning specific workplace to industry-wide EDI challenges, your first (of two) courses in the UBC Micro-certificate in Equitable Systems Design (ESD) is a participatory experience leading to the creation of equitable solutions through a series of equity-centered design challenges, frameworks and strategies focused on systemic-change within your industry.

This course explores the meaning of intersectionality, and solutions for respectfully engaging with all members of our communities. Understand the complexity, range and depth of intersectionality by first paying attention to your identity, then considering others' narratives which are generated at the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, religious identity and ethnicity, among other social identities.
