Refunds, cancellations and transfers

Refunds

You can withdraw from a course up to seven days prior to the course start date and will be eligible for a refund (less a $50 administration fee) or full fee transfer to another course. Log in to your Lifelong Learning account to complete a course withdrawal or transfer if it is seven days or more before the course start date.

We cannot offer refunds or course transfers for withdrawals within seven days of the course start date. Contact us if you need to withdraw from a course less than seven days before the course begins.  

Course fees of $50 or less are non-refundable unless we cancel the course.

The following are exceptions to our general withdrawal and refund policy:

Academic Explorations

You can withdraw from a course up to three days prior to the course start date and will be eligible for a refund (less a $25 administration fee) or full fee transfer to another course. Contact us if you need to withdraw from your Academic Explorations course or transfer to another course. 

Certificate, Micro-certificate and Award of Achievement programs

If you would like to withdraw from a certificate, micro-certificate or award of achievement program, including the courses that are part of these programs, please submit written notice via email at least seven business days before your course starts. Program application fees are non-refundable. Please review each program for specific details.

UBC Future Global Leaders

UBC Future Global Leaders online

If you would like to withdraw from a UBC Future Global Leaders online course, please submit written notice via email. We cannot offer refunds for withdrawals received after the third class has begun.

For winter online courses, please submit written notice by Wednesday before the third Saturday of your course.

For summer online courses, please submit written notice by Tuesday of the first week.

UBC Future Global Leaders on-campus – commuter option

If you’re registered as a UBC Future Global Leaders on-campus commuter student, and would like to withdraw, please submit written notice via email before the start of the third class to be eligible for a refund (less a $50 administration fee). We cannot offer refunds for withdrawals received after the third class has begun.

UBC Future Global Leaders on-campus – residence option

If you’re registered as a UBC Future Global Leaders on-campus residence student, and would like to withdraw from the program, please submit written notice via email at least 30 days before the first day of the program to be eligible for a refund (less the CAD$500 non-refundable deposit). We cannot offer refunds for withdrawals received less than 30 days before the start of the program.

If your study permit/visa has been denied, please email us a scanned copy of the original communication from the Canadian embassy, consulate or high commission before the start of the first class. We will refund you your fees, less a $50 administration fee.

If you’re unable to attend UBC Future Global Leaders on-campus for medical reasons, please email us a scanned copy of original documentation explaining the medical reason before the start of the first class. We will refund you your fees, less a $50 administration fee.

Cancellations

We are sometimes forced to cancel courses due to insufficient enrolment or other reasons. If this happens, we offer a full refund and send it to you automatically.

Course transfers

Transferring from one course to another, or changing sections of the same course, within seven days of the course start date is considered a withdrawal and a new registration, and a $50 administration fee for withdrawals applies.
