Adults over age 65 are the fastest-growing demographic in Canada. This demographic shift is increasing demand for services, supports and care that promote health and wellbeing as people age. At the same time, advances in the science of aging are leading to new treatments, interventions and lifestyle approaches that enhance quality of life and support healthy, independent aging.
Professionals with expertise in this area are needed to provide effective person-centred, age-inclusive care across healthcare, community and social services, caregiving and other fields that support older adults. Developed by the Edwin S.H. Leong Centre for Healthy Aging, our offerings build on the latest aging research, equipping learners with practical, evidence-based skills that they can apply immediately in their role or in future career opportunities.
These online courses explore a range of topics, including ageism, socio-cultural perspectives on aging, geroscience, lifestyle factors and communication skills. Learners can choose individual courses aligned with their specific interests and professional goals, or complete any four of the five available courses to develop more comprehensive expertise and earn a micro-certificate credential.
