Brian Houle
Graphic Designer
Brian is the graphic designer and photographer on the UBC Extended Learning (ExL) marketing team. He creates digital assets for social media and the web, and designs all marketing collateral. He also designs, builds and deploys emails for all ExL program areas. As an experienced and trained photographer, Brian oversees the creative direction and execution for photography used in ExL communications and marketing. Brian brings more than 35 years of marketing communications design expertise to the ExL team.

Adam Huizinga
Business Systems Specialist
He, Him, His
Adam is responsible for anticipating and analyzing the business needs of UBC Extended Learning, as well as initiating, delivering and managing UBC Extended Learning services for internal and external clients. Working closely with the student service and program teams, Adam supports staff to ensure that they have the tools needed to create an optimal learning environment for all our students and instructors. He has a background in helping people understand technology, and is passionate about assisting historically marginalized groups harness university resources for their advancement.

Rani Kang
Student Services Representative
She, Her, Hers
Rani works on the UBC Extended Learning (ExL) student services team, providing front-line assistance to prospective and current ExL learners. She helps guide students in choosing courses and programs that will meet their career and personal education goals. Her responsibilities also include coordinating program inquiries, processing applications, advising students on course and program selection, and supporting other program areas within ExL.

Joseph Khalil
Manager, Learning Technologies, Course Production, Delivery & Support, Academic Services
Joseph is responsible for the development and maintenance of Learning Technology tools, web applications and automated processes for educational technology and LT infrastructure at UBC Extended Learning. Leveraging his expertise and experience in web programming, he is responsible to identify and implement appropriate web programming solutions to meet ExL and faculty needs in support of the teaching and learning for UBC Extended Learning and faculty non-degree programming. Joseph is also responsible for leading the Course Production, Delivery and Support portfolio to support ExL and Faculty non-degree programming and learners.
He has over a decade of experience at UBC as a senior web programmer, full stack developer and leading the support of online learning and development of learning technologies and cloud-based solutions.
Joseph is a member of the ExL Learning Design and Learning Technology Community and ExL DIY Media Community.Details

Kathy Lin
Manager, Program Marketing
She, Her, Hers
Kathy plans, implements and evaluates integrated marketing campaigns for UBC Extended Learning’s (ExL) technology programs and supports faculty partnerships. In her role, Kathy collaborates with various faculties and institutes such as Computer Science, Arts, and the Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability.
With a background in business, digital marketing, user interface and experience design, Kathy plays a key role in refining and optimizing ExL web strategies for improved user experience. She is committed to empowering learners by facilitating access to educational resources that nurture skills and confidence for people to live their lives authentically.

Winnie Low
Senior Manager, Learning Technology, Learning Design and Media Development, Strategy and Operations, Academic Services
She, Her, Hers
Winnie provides learning technology, media, project management, change management and online course and program development leadership and expertise at UBC Extended Learning (ExL). Her focus is on increasing UBC’s capacity to support online teaching and learning for non-degree programming.
In her role, she oversees the ExL Learning Design & Learning Technology, and ExL DIY Media communities. She also provides portfolio management expertise for Vice-Provost and Academic Office initiatives, and leads learning design and media development for new ExL and Vice-President Academic Office initiatives, such as Academic Essentials.
Winnie is the ExL representative at the LT Ecosystem Working Group and Canvas Catalog Administrators Group. Certified as a Change Management Professional and in ITIL Foundation, Winnie brings more than 16 years’ experience in information technology, learning technology and online course and program development to her role.

Terence Lowe
Program Leader, Centre for Equitable Systems Design
He, Him, His
Terence (he/him) is the Program Leader, the Centre for Equitable Systems Design (CESD) at UBC Extended Learning managing the equity, diversity, inclusion (EDI), anti-racism and intercultural communication programming. Terence overseas the delivery of learner-centred teaching methodologies, facilitator training and support, and instructional content for the CESD’s courses, online certificate programs, and organizational development programming.
Terence has worked extensively in community-engaged learning and EDI work as an educator, consultant, advisor, trainer, and facilitator for an array of adult learner programs in higher education and community-based organizations, locally, nationally, and abroad. He firmly believes in inspiring learners to grow in empathy and deep courage to do the work it takes to transform the systems we are in.

Beatrice Lui
Manager, Digital Marketing
She, Her, Hers
Beatrice works on the UBC Extended Learning (ExL) marketing team to create and implement digital marketing campaigns and strategies for ExL programs. This includes managing and developing ExL social media accounts, optimizing paid campaigns for Google ads and other platforms, and managing a variety of digital advertising projects.
Beatrice’s goal is to continuously increase yearly ExL program and course enrolments, while creating community, fostering engagement and improving the student experience. She brings a background in online paid advertising, social media and email marketing, analytics and SEO to her role.

Jamie Ma
ExL Administrative Coordinator
She, Her, Hers
Jamie oversees office administration and is the primary administrative contact for UBC Extended Learning (ExL). She ensures the ExL office runs smoothly and is always seeking ways to streamline administration. She provides executive-level support for the ExL Executive Director, and assists the ExL Management Team. Reporting to the ExL Director of Administration, Jamie’s day-to-day duties also include liaising with various UBC units, faculties and departments in the wider UBC community.

Gina Mahil
Senior Manager, Program Marketing
She, Her, Hers
Gina develops, implements and evaluates integrated marketing campaigns for Extended Learning (ExL) career and personal education programs, both within ExL and for the University. In her role, she manages the digital marketing team, and provides strategic direction and recommendations to the Director, Marketing.
Gina brings more than 20 years’ marketing experience in private industry and not-for-profit organizations to her role. As an avid believer in continued learning and personal growth, she has participated in the UBC Community Leadership Program and is working toward her International Coach Federation accreditation through the Organizational Coaching program at UBC.
