Italian and Portuguese fall into the romance category of languages and are popular choices for those looking to fulfill a lifelong dream of learning a language, to connect more deeply with family and friends or to pursue more authentic travel experiences.  

Our engaging classes in Italian and Portuguese are available in multiple levels and are designed to offer applicable language skills for travel, work and everyday situations. Whether you have no previous experience, or you’re looking to grow your vocabulary and fine-tune your grammar and fluency, each course focuses on learning by doing. Through speaking and interacting with your classmates in authentic and realistic scenarios, you are given the training, tools and instructor feedback to feel confident in your linguistic abilities.

Meet Catherine, UBC Extended Learning Italian student

Catherine signed up for her first Italian class after a trip to Italy left her wishing she could understand the language better. When she later returned to Italy and was able to speak Italian, her experience was totally different and she felt a deeper connection to the people and the culture.
