Addressing Power, Privilege and Systems

  • Online
  • $475 - $500

This course can be applied to the UBC Certificate in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and UBC Micro-certificate in Anti-Racism.

Whiteness is the prevalent norm in most organizational cultures. Disrupting this norm requires a thoughtful and thorough examination of white privilege, and an understanding of the nuanced ways in which this power and privilege continue to establish and uphold white experiences at a cost to racialized people.

This course provides you an opportunity to learn how you can better understand, question and interrupt this norm. Build awareness around the ways in which white supremacy manifests as our workplaces grow more diverse, and take a close look at the impact that white supremacy has on both individuals and systems.

Reflect on the tensions between the desire to champion anti-racism while experiencing the privileges that whiteness confers. Consider tangible responses to create pathways and welcoming spaces for racialized people in your context.
