Through applied practicum work, mentorship, and collaborative learning, Associates return to a shared learning environment to deepen their practice and broaden their impact in real-world settings.
Course format and hours The format of this course is 100% online and consists of both live virtual sessions and asynchronous work. One week prior to the start of the course, an email will be sent to all registered students containing instructions on how to access the online Learning Management System.
This course consists of two components:
1. Online Course-Based Program
Approximately 7 hours per week for a total of 40 hours over six weeks. Be prepared to spend approximately seven hours per week completing learning activities, including readings, assignments, posting and responding to online group discussions, and other projects.
The Program starts with asynchronous course work in weeks one and two.
Live Zoom sessions are scheduled for Thursdays and Fridays of the third and fifth full weeks of the course. See Details in available course sessions below for the live Zoom session dates.
2. Applied Practicum/Real-World Challenge
During this phase of the learning, participants choose a real-world challenge and apply what they’ve learned through a project, practice shift, or learning initiative.
Your practicum can take the form of a small facilitated session, a change in how something is done in your workplace or community, or an initiative that supports dialogue, inclusion, or systemic awareness.
Participants are required to find this project opportunity or practicum on their own in preparation for this requirement of the program.
Practicum is self-paced and accompanied by 10 hours of online course work that comprises optional peer meetups, virtual check-ins with the facilitation team and the preparation of an online report as part of a practicum kit.
By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:
- Earn recognition as an Associate of the Centre for Equitable Systems Design, including a digital badge to showcase your accomplishment as an equity practitioner.
- Develop and deliver a real-world project, practice shift, or facilitated dialogue, applying your skills as an educator, consultant, and/or practitioner to address a specific equity, inclusion, or systems challenge in your workplace or community.
- Create a personalized roadmap for sustaining and growing your equity-centered practice, clarifying your role and next steps as a facilitator of change even in complex settings.
- Connect with a network of peers to share learning, exchange feedback, and foster collaborative growth as a community of practice.
