The UBC Micro-certificate Step into Quantum is a part-time, online program that helps you build foundational quantum knowledge and explore how quantum technologies connect to your field or career goals. Designed to be accessible, approachable and application focused, the program explores core quantum principles, algorithms, cryptography, sensors and sector applications so you can build confidence, strengthen critical thinking and better understand what quantum technologies mean for your work and industry.
Developed by the Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute, this micro-certificate combines foundational quantum learning with insights into both global players and BC’s growing quantum sector. You gain exposure to industry applications, career pathways and emerging opportunities in quantum technologies while developing a personalized quantum readiness plan to help guide your next steps in learning and professional development.
- Who it’s for: Early- to mid-career professionals in quantum-adjacent fields, STEM graduates, technology professionals and learners seeking foundational quantum awareness and career-focused skills.
- Format: 100% online and instructor supported with real-time sessions
- Duration: Two courses of five weeks each, approximately 25 hours per course

StrongerBC future skills grant
This program is eligible for StrongerBC future skills grant, which is open to most BC residents aged 19 years or older – and covers up to $3,500 for eligible programs at public post-secondary institutions.
Applications for this program will open in the StrongerBC future skills grant Management System in the near future.
