The UBC Micro-certificate in AI Powered Automation and Personalization provides a comprehensive introduction to artificial intelligence in the context of the digital media industry.

Learn to use the tools and techniques of automation and personalization, while examining their effects on creative processes, business planning and outcomes, and audience experiences. Take a close look at the ethical issues surrounding AI technologies, and consider how these technologies can be used responsibly within the digital media industry.

By the end of this program, you will be able to:

• Understand AI and its application in digital media
• Identify the potential benefits of AI automation and personalization to digital media businesses and their audiences
• Implement AI automation and personalization tools and strategies in digital media processes and projects
• Understand how AI personalization can optimize customer engagement and retention, foster stronger relationships and improve business outcomes

Technical and coding skills are not required to take this program. It is designed to accommodate professionals in non-technical or tech-adjacent roles who are interested in quickly upskilling to access job opportunities where automation and AI solutions are either under consideration or already implemented.

This program is particularly relevant for digital media specialists, content creators, writers and managers across various industries who are responsible for developing media for business or creative needs, as well as for professionals working in media-related fields including web broadcast, film, video production, education, entertainment media, social media and marketing.

Each course costs $1350. The total cost of the program is $2700.

This micro-certificate program consists of two courses of four weeks each. Each course takes approximately 28 hours to complete, for a total of 56 hours of learning.

The AI Powered Automation Strategies for Digital Media course must be completed before enrolling in the Maximizing Benefits of Personalization with AI in Digital Media course. Once completed, the UBC Micro-certificate in AI-Powered Automation and Personalization can be applied towards the UBC Certificate in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Digital Media.

Required Courses

This 100% online part-time program consists of instructor-supported real-time classes combined with independent study.

Weekly virtual classes include subject matter experts and a high degree of personal engagement and interactivity. All sessions are recorded in case you miss one.

Outside of class, you can access online materials on your own time. Each week, review readings and videos, apply your knowledge in exercises, quizzes and case studies, and contribute to an online discussion forum.

Expected effort

Expect to spend approximately five to seven hours per week per course completing all learning activities, including attending live sessions online.

Textbooks and materials There are no textbooks required for this program. All course content is provided in the online learning management system.

Technology requirements

To take this program, you need access to:

• an email account
• a computer, laptop or tablet, using Windows or macOS
• the latest version of a web browser (or previous major version release)
• a reliable internet connection
• a video camera and microphone

Assessment

You are assessed on successfully completing weekly activities, including exercises, quizzes, applied case study projects (based on real-life scenarios) and your contributions to discussion posts. These activities are marked using a proficiency scale, and your instructor provides you informal feedback in the real-time classes.

While you’re not assessed on your attendance of the real-time online classes, we encourage you to attend so you don’t miss the opportunity to learn and interact with your instructor and other participants. All sessions are recorded in case you miss one.

The courses in this micro-certificate program operate on a pass/fail basis. You must achieve an overall grade of 70% or greater to pass each course and be eligible to earn the UBC Micro-certificate in AI Powered Automation and Personalization.
