Learn how artificial intelligence (AI) is changing the ways people learn languages.
As an English language learner, you face challenges in accessing the best resources and adapting to digital platforms. This course helps you understand AI concepts and use practical AI tools to support your English learning. You gain skills to write better prompts, try new learning activities and develop digital confidence for study and work in Canada. This short two-week course offers a hands-on format with flexible online delivery. It is designed for busy learners who want support while learning independently.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Understand core concepts of how AI works, including key terms and processes
- Use common AI tools for reading, writing, listening and speaking
- Develop prompts and refine them using feedback
- Record and reflect on your progress using a personal AI learning notebook

How am I assessed?
You will be assessed through quizzes and a platform comparison mini-project. A minimum grade of 70% is required to pass.
Expected effort
Expect to spend seven to eight hours per week, including optional live sessions or office hours.

To take this course, and for the best experience, we recommend you have access to:

- a computer or laptop using Windows or macOS or a tablet
- the latest version of a web browser (or previous major version release)
- a reliable internet connection
- a video camera
One day before the start of your course, we’ll email you step-by-step instructions for accessing your course.
You will also need an AI account of your choosing (ChatGPT, CoPilot, Claude, Perplexity, etc.) You can use a free version to complete the course, but some of the functions shown in the courses require a basic paid account.

Suggested IELTS 4.5 or higher.
