Japanese Beginner 1

Course

Learn to share information about yourself and ask basic questions of those around you in Japanese. Learn structure and vocabulary that allow you to function in everyday settings such as introducing yourself, discussing your family and your likes and dislikes. Begin to understand complex language structures in an immersion classroom setting while learning to speak primarily in the present tense.

Japanese Beginner 2

Course

Add to your basic Japanese vocabulary in everyday situations involving travel, food, shopping, transportation, family and business. In addition to improving your functional ability when speaking in the present tense, you begin to express yourself in the past and future tenses. Native-speaking instructors provide you with insight into the culture, traditions and etiquette of Japan. The Japanese writing system of katakana is introduced at this level.

Japanese Conversation Practice

Course

Build your Japanese fluency, vocabulary and grammatical awareness by practising speaking and listening with your instructor and classmates. Topics will change from term to term so you can repeat the course to continue developing your skills.

Japanese Lower Intermediate and Intermediate

Course

Expand your Japanese vocabulary and start to elevate your level of language with improvement in pronunciation, grammatical structures and complex sentence formation. Concentrate on speaking correctly and distinguishing between the past, present and future tenses. Learn about nuances of the language, including correct registers of language to use in various situations.

Korean Beginner 1

Course

Gain practical speaking, reading and writing skills in Korean. Perfect for those with no knowledge of Korean, this beginner course covers basic vocabulary and grammatical structures, and the Korean alphabet, Hangul. Learn about culture and everyday life in modern Korea.

Korean Beginner 2

Course

Gain practical speaking, reading and writing skills in Korean. Build your vocabulary and grammar skills through live, interactive classes, audio recordings and videos as you learn about culture and life in modern Korea.

Complete the Intercultural Development Inventory and receive individualized feedback on your results. Reflect on your cultural identity, role and challenges in your own leadership context and develop a plan for applying your skills to create change and build inclusive communities and organizations.

Managing Creativity In Teams

Course

The objective of this course is to support teams of individuals to nurture, manage and direct their creative impulses that emerge from collaborating in order to create work for others. This course is part of the UBC Certificate in Biomedical Visualization and Communication.
