The sustainable blue economy is expanding rapidly in Canada, creating opportunities in sectors such as fisheries, marine tourism and coastal planning. Yet many aspiring professionals and recent graduates who care about oceans lack accessible training that shows employers they can interpret research, work with data and contribute to real-world solutions.
Introduction to the Sustainable Blue Economy is a 12-week online micro-certificate that helps you move from interest to impact. Through live sessions and asynchronous activities, you build foundational knowledge of the sustainable blue economy and develop practical skills in research, data analysis, policy and science communication you can apply in your current or future role.
Developed by UBC’s Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries and UBC Extended Learning, this program combines leading ocean research with a flexible, supportive learning experience. You explore case studies on topics such as Indigenous stewardship and coastal resilience, and create a capstone project tailored to your chosen audience to showcase your capabilities and prepare for further opportunities in this growing field.
