UBC Extended Learning is proud to announce that its Organizational Coaching Certificate Program has been awarded the EMCC Global Award for Coaching, recognizing the program’s pioneering leadership, commitment to excellence, and lasting impact on individuals, organizations, and society.
Founded in 2013, the Organizational Coaching Certificate was the first university-based program of its kind in North America. With a curriculum deeply rooted in reflective practice, systemic thinking, and evidence-based methodologies, the program equips coaches to lead transformational change across sectors.
In granting the award, the EMCC (European Mentoring and Coaching Council) praised the UBC program for its “pioneering contribution to professional coaching,” noting its rigorous academic foundation, inclusive learning environment, and innovative capstone—the Organizational Coaching Project—which has provided real-world coaching experience to more than 100 client organizations.
With hundreds of alumni leading coaching initiatives around the world, the program has driven cultural transformation in sectors such as healthcare, education, government, and technology. Graduates continue to shape the field through leadership, research, and mentoring, creating a ripple effect of positive change that aligns with the EMCC’s values of pioneering spirit, excellence, inclusion, cultural diversity, social responsibility, and human connection.
“When we found out we won this award we were honoured and thrilled with this global recognition,” said Brian Taguchi, Program Leader UBC Extended Learning. “Our program overlaps with EMCC’s purpose of developing and promoting best practices in coaching for the betterment of society. We help people learn how to co-create learning communities using coaching as the learning methodology.”
The Organizational Coaching Certificate exemplifies UBC’s commitment to innovative, applied education that empowers learners and organizations alike. As the field of coaching continues to evolve, UBC’s program remains at the forefront—cultivating reflective, inclusive, and effective leaders ready to make a difference.
