This course is part of the UBC Future Global Leaders on-campus program for high school students ages 15–18.
Some of the brands you buy from every day started as one person's idea and a simple online store. But how do entrepreneurs turn an idea into a business that customers actually pay for?
In this hands-on course, you learn how to generate business ideas, test them with critical thinking and choose the right business model. You write a business plan, explore how to promote a business through digital and traditional marketing, and build a basic website to bring your idea to life. You also get hands-on with real software businesses use to track money coming in and going out, so you can create simple financial statements and see whether your idea adds up.
Throughout the course, you develop your own business from concept to pre-launch. By the end, you have a business idea you can showcase, along with practical skills that carry into university programs in accounting, finance and marketing.
If you've ever dreamed of starting your own business or want a head start on business school, this course is for you.
