This course is part of the UBC Future Global Leaders on-campus program for high school students ages 15–18.
In this Introduction to Criminal Law course, you explore Canada's criminal justice system and learn how criminal law influences society, public safety and individual rights. Through real-world cases, current events and hands-on activities, you examine topics such as criminal offences, investigations, the courtroom process and the legal protections guaranteed to all individuals.
Step into the role of lawyer, judge, juror and policymaker as you analyze case studies, debate challenging legal and ethical issues, and apply legal reasoning. By the end of the course, you understand the fundamental principles of criminal law, the rights and responsibilities of people within the justice system, and the important role criminal law plays in balancing public safety, fairness and justice.
This course is perfect for students who enjoy debating, solving complex problems, understanding current events or are curious about careers in law, criminology, public policy, law enforcement or government.
This course is offered by the Peter A. Allard School of Law, one of the leading law schools in Canada.
