This course is part of the UBC Micro-certificate in Healthcare Accounting.
In the Canadian public healthcare system, clinicians, managers and other professionals are increasingly taking on roles that include some accounting responsibilities– from working with financial statements and internal operating reports to preparing business cases with budgets and forecasts. However, relevant training for these skills is not readily available, and the consequence is a healthcare system under increasing financial pressure without people to support critical budgetary decisions.
This 16-week online course equips healthcare professionals with essential financial knowledge and skills tailored to the Canadian public healthcare system. It delves into accounting, budgeting, forecasting and analysis of financial statements and reports, preparing learners to make informed budgetary decisions and fulfill their operational and functional goals.
A financial background is not required to take this course. It is designed for non-accountants working in public healthcare in a variety of capacities.
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
- Understand fundamental accounting, costing and budgeting principles relevant to the healthcare sector
- Read, interpret and analyze financial statements and reports pertinent to healthcare departmental management
- Integrate current guidelines and regulations into financial reporting practices within healthcare organizations
