The UBC Micro-certificate in AI Development of Interactive Experiences offers an in-depth exploration of the intersection between digital media and AI. Learn how to use key AI tools and strategies to influence consumer behaviour and enhance interactive experiences and, more broadly, understand how these technologies can make business planning, processes and decision-making more efficient and effective.

By the end of this program, you will be able to:

• Understand the relationship between digital media and AI and its application in media companies and other businesses that use digital media
• Identify areas where AI can be implemented in media operations including content creation, distribution and personalized marketing
• Leverage AI tools to increase efficiency, improve user experience and engagement, and drive business growth
• Use AI to enhance interactive digital experiences for customers, and to respond to their unique and changing preferences
• Apply AI strategies such as digital twins and visualization to aid with research, testing, training, planning and deployment
• Use AI for data analysis and decision-making and understand the ROI of AI-driven strategies
• Develop an AI-driven business plan for a media company, including strategies to adapt to new platforms, tools and trends
• Evaluate the ethical and legal considerations of using AI in media companies, and learn how to protect consumer data and comply with regulations

Technical and coding skills are not required to take this program. It is designed to accommodate professionals in non-technical or tech-adjacent roles who are interested in quickly upskilling to access job opportunities where automation and AI solutions are either under consideration or already implemented.

Each course costs $1,350. The total cost of the program is $2,700.

This micro-certificate program consists of two courses of four weeks each. Each course takes approximately 28 hours to complete, for a total of 56 hours of learning.

The Leveraging AI to Create Enhanced Interactive Experiences course must be completed before enrolling in the AI-Driven Business Strategies for Media Companies course.

Once completed, the UBC Micro-certificate in AI Development of Interactive Experiences can be applied towards the UBC Certificate in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Digital Media.

Required Courses

This 100% online part-time program consists of instructor-supported real-time classes combined with independent study.

Weekly virtual classes include subject matter experts and a high degree of personal engagement and interactivity. All sessions are recorded in case you miss one.

Outside of class, you can access online materials on your own time. Each week, review readings and videos, apply your knowledge in exercises, quizzes and case studies, and contribute to an online discussion forum.

Expected effort

Expect to spend approximately five to seven hours per week per course completing all learning activities, including attending live sessions online.

Textbooks and materials

There are no textbooks required for this program. All course content is provided in the online learning management system.

Technology requirements

To take this program, you need access to:

• an email account
• a computer
• laptop or tablet
• using Windows or macOS
• the latest version of a web browser (or previous major version release)
• a reliable internet connection
• a video camera and microphone

Assessment

You are assessed on successfully completing weekly activities, including exercises, quizzes, applied case study projects (based on real-life scenarios) and your contributions to discussion posts. These activities are marked using a proficiency scale, and your instructor provides you informal feedback in the real-time classes.

While you’re not assessed on your attendance of the real-time online classes, we encourage you to attend so you don’t miss the opportunity to learn and interact with your instructor and other participants. All sessions are recorded in case you miss one.

The courses in this micro-certificate program operate on a pass/fail basis. You must achieve an overall grade of 70% or greater to pass each course and be eligible to earn the UBC Micro-certificate in AI Development of Interactive Experiences.
