This mini school is part of the UBC Future Global Leaders on-campus program for high school students ages 15–18. With 45 hours of class time, mini schools provide a comprehensive introduction to a program area and include information on learning pathways and career opportunities.
This highly immersive two-week mini school acquaints students with the full arc of the actor’s process as you analyze, rehearse and perform a two-person scene both on the stage and for the camera. Students of all levels of experience can benefit from this deep dive into what it takes to deliver credible and communicative performances across the domains of theatre and film.
The process of acting incorporates everything from deep textual analysis; methods of responsive character embodiment (demanding flexibility and precision of expression and vocal freedom and control allowing emotional expression to be both spontaneous and effectively shaped); and rehearsal techniques, often grounded in improvisation and imagination, that enhance focussed presence and active listening. All of these and more are touched upon in this UBC Theatre and Film Mini School.
This is an excellent choice if you are thinking about studying theatre and film at the university level or if you just want to improve your performance and presentation skills.
UBC Theatre and Film is a renowned department that has produced some of Canada’s most innovative artists and scholars for over 50 years.
