This micro-course can be applied toward the UBC Certificate in AI Skills Accelerator for IT, Digital and Enterprise Systems Professionals and is the mastery level 3 micro-course in the AI for Strategic Decision Making track.
This mastery level micro-course positions IT and business professionals as strategic leaders in AI-powered business transformation initiatives, developing comprehensive enterprise strategies that bring together sustainable AI governance frameworks, risk management protocols and innovative AI business applications. Design transformation roadmaps and strengthen communication skills to support enterprise-wide AI adoption and long-term organizational success.
This micro-course is designed for IT professionals in managerial, project management and leadership roles.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Collaborate with technical teams to align AI tools with organizational objectives and evaluate both technical and functional requirements
- Recognize and develop the workforce capabilities: flexibility, agility, adaptability, and innovation needed to thrive in a constantly evolving AI landscape
- Apply Indigenous and cultural data sovereignty principles to AI telemetry, logging, and model training data, and evaluate AI cyber defence use cases for compliance with Canadian privacy and AI governance standards
- Assess how AI is being applied across key business functions (talent management, product development, sales & marketing, finance) and explain why organizational redesign and top down governance drive financial value more than model performance alone
- Identify AI related risks at the individual, organizational, and societal levels throughout the model lifecycle and design a high level governance control set (policy + technical) that constrains model behavior, logging, and data retention
- Construct a comprehensive AI governance and adoption framework that links risk mitigation, continuous learning, executive sponsorship, and outcome focused metrics, while addressing common AI pilot failure factors to achieve sustainable, enterprise wide AI value

How am I assessed?
You will be assessed on successfully completing weekly activities, including exercises, quizzes, applied case study projects (based on real-life scenarios) and your contributions to discussion posts. These activities are marked using a proficiency scale, and your instructor provides you informal feedback during live online sessions.
While you are not assessed on your attendance of the live online sessions, we encourage you to attend so you can learn and interact with your instructor and other participants. All sessions are recorded in case you miss one.
This micro-course operates on a pass/fail basis. You must achieve an overall grade of 70% or greater to pass and be eligible to earn the UBC Certificate in AI Skills Accelerator for IT, Digital and Enterprise Systems Professionals.
Expected effort
Expect to spend approximately 14 hours per week per course completing all learning activities, including attending live sessions online.
Requisites
Completion of AI for Strategic Decision Making 2: Planning with AI Insights or equivalent AI knowledge.
Course format
This 100% online part-time program consists of instructor-supported real-time classes combined with independent study.
Each micro-course will consist of a weekly virtual class taught by subject matter experts and a high degree of personal engagement and interactivity. Live sessions are recorded. Outside of class, you can access online materials on your own time.
