Welcome to UBC Extended Learning

About Us

We believe that learning is a continuous, lifelong endeavour. Education – at any stage of life – should be flexible, innovative, and accessible.

Extended Learning supports diverse learners to deepen their knowledge and expand their skill set for academic success, professional advancement and personal enrichment. We design, develop and deliver exceptional learning opportunities and experiences by collaborating with UBC faculties and units, and community and industry partners.

Our Values

Collaboration: We work together toward our collective goals with shared respect and commitment. We recognize that we are made stronger by our partnerships and collaborations, and actively foster connections with our communities.

Flexibility: We demonstrate the willingness and ability to readily respond to changing circumstances and expectations in a responsible fashion with evidence-based decisions.

Learning: Learning is fundamental to our organizational wellbeing and that of our students and communities. We strive to learn, grow and continuously improve to support our students in their learning aspirations.

Inclusion: We are committed to equity and inclusion in order to create a thriving workplace that supports our diverse communities with a wide range of creative and innovative programs.

Communication: We believe in integrity and respect in all communication, with ideas and opinions sought and given due consideration, and resulting decisions acted upon.

How UBC Extended Learning Came to Be

UBC Extended Learning was formally established by the Vancouver Senate at UBC in early 2017 to respond to the needs of 21st century learners. Our mandate is to work with UBC faculties to deliver career and personal education courses and programs, providing expertise in business development, marketing, program design, student services, and operational support.
