We believe that learning is a continuous, lifelong endeavour. Education – at any stage of life – should be flexible, innovative, and accessible.
We work with UBC faculties to create and deliver programs that meet the career and personal needs of our communities, including alumni, current UBC students and learners of all ages.
Together, we provide outstanding learning opportunities, bringing UBC excellence in academics, teaching and research to the communities we serve, and strengthening UBC’s contribution to society, industry and government.
In addition to UBC Extended Learning courses and programs, we offer specialized programming and unique pedagogy through our centres and institute.
- The Centre for Cultural Planning and Development provides online university-level training and education programs focused on building the organizational and leadership capacities needed to advance cultural development
- The Centre for Intercultural Communication aims to provide transformative educational experiences that fosters respectful intercultural leadership and engagement across differences
- The English Language Institute is an internationally respected school founded in 1969. With an immersive learning environment, a professional faculty, advanced approaches to instruction and international staff, the ELI has helped more than 50,000 students achieve their language, personal and professional goals.
How UBC Extended Learning Came to Be
UBC Extended Learning was formally established by the Vancouver Senate at UBC in early 2017 to respond to the needs of 21st century learners. Our mandate is to work with UBC faculties to deliver career and personal education courses and programs, providing expertise in business development, marketing, program design, student services and operational support.
