Tourism Workshop 1: Emerging Cultural Tourism Trends and Practices - An International Perspective

Learn about the value of cultural tourism as it relates to the tourism industry and arts and culture, and understand the economic and social impacts related to this growing segment of the global tourism industry. Definitions of cultural tourism, and the profile of the cultural traveler, are provided. Explore various cultural tourism planning processes, and consider how to match the most appropriate approach to your specific destination.

By the end of this workshop, you will:

  • Recall established cultural tourism definitions and resources, international approaches and trends;
  • Comprehend the economic and social impacts of cultural tourism to destinations, residents and resources, and the value of cultural tourism experiences to communities and visitors;
  • Recognize the specific issues challenging the development and sustainability of cultural tourism;
  • Identify various approaches to cultural tourism planning, and understand which are most appropriate for achieving the destination goals of your community or organization.

This workshop is designed to fill the gap between a typical short webinar and a longer online course. Each workshop is led by an international expert, combines lectures and small group discussion, and meets online for two (2) hours, once a week for three weeks. There is also an online discussion board for sharing information and group discussion during the three weeks.  There is no grading.
