Tomorrow’s Master of Digital Media Virtual Reality Bootcamp

This course is part of the UBC Future Global Leaders On-Campus program for high school students ages 15–18.

Tomorrow’s Master of Digital Media (TMDM) Virtual Reality Bootcamp introduces you to immersive technologies that will inspire you to create and experience new worlds. Come away from this bootcamp with an understanding of Virtual Reality (VR) concepts, and why we use this technology for our real world.

In week one, focus on the 3D immersive design process and take part in fun group activities to learn:

  • problem-solving
  • ideation
  • rapid prototyping
  • team collaboration
  • skills and concepts in Unity, a game development engine, to create VR games and experiences.

In week two, take on the unique design challenges of building for VR. Together with a team, you’ll brainstorm and work together to create a rapid prototype to solve a real-world problem.

At the end of course, you and your team will present your VR prototype, and come away with an exciting project for your portfolio.

An Oculus Quest 2 VR headset is recommended for this bootcamp, but not required. You can buy a headset from Amazon, Best Buy, Newegg or your local retailer.
