Online Workshop: Best Practices in Museum Governance and Strategic Planning

Drawing on case studies and industry related readings, gain a deeper understanding of how to create and implement a multi-year strategic plan, including learning ways museum administrators can work with key stakeholders to create compelling and practical vision/mission statements and strategic goals.

In addition, you will learn how to create and support a successful non-profit governance structure.

Discussions focus on how to:

  • identify and recruit board members
  • create a healthy committee structure
  • define and set term limits
  • involve board members in the strategic planning process
  • develop a leadership succession plan.

You will also take away strategic and governance planning templates for your own post-course use.

This course is designed to fill the gap between a typical short webinar and a longer online course. Each workshop is led by an international expert, combines lectures and small group discussion, and meets online for two (2) hours, once a week for three weeks. There is also an online discussion board for sharing information and group discussion during the three weeks.  There is no grading.
