This course is part of the UBC Future Global Leaders On-Campus program for high school students ages 15–18.
Can we create super humans using genome editing technology? Should we look forward to having artificial humans in the near future? Can we finally find the drug to treat Alzheimer’s disease?
Uncover the answers to these and other key scientific questions. Study individual cells and the process of fabricating actual living tissues, and examine applications of bioengineering in everyday life.
This course is ideal if you’re interested in biomedical engineering, regenerative medicine, biology, genome science and technology, or if you’re interested in making bio-products that could save people’s lives.
ROZA V. GHAEMI is a PhD candidate in the School of Biomedical Engineering at UBC. Her PhD research focuses on stem cells and tissue engineering of the human brain as a drug discovery platform. She teaches courses in bioengineering, chemical and biological engineering, and science communication.
This course is held on the UBC Vancouver campus. You attend class in-person 9am–12pm, Monday through Friday. After lunch, you attend university preparation workshops and participate in group activities on campus from 1:30–3pm.
You can also join the Virtual Student Lounge, hosted by our UBC Student Ambassadors. Meet other UBC Future Global Leaders from across Canada and around the world.
