Fiction: Examining and Using Story Structure

In this updated and redesigned course, work on your writing as you explore the structure and themes of narrative through reading and responding to selected texts from a variety of cultures and traditions. In addition to reading and breaking down texts to see how writers and storytellers have accomplished their purpose (and what you can take away to apply to your own work), complete weekly writing activities and keep a reading journal. Please note that this course focuses on big-picture, foundational aspects of writing, such as theory and structure, and is therefore reading- and discussion-intensive rather than being focused on completing specific projects.
