Fiction: Crafting Dialogue

You have a great plot and interesting characters ready to engage your audience, but what happens when your characters speak? Dialogue is a delicate art that is central to strong storytelling. Good dialogue involves a keen ear, a sense of rhythm, a grasp of story- and character-logic, and an understanding of sub-text. Through studying examples, practicing in class, and working on assignments at home, create effective dialogue for your story no matter where you are in the writing process.
