UBC Extended Learning (UBC ExL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Gregor Kiczales as Executive Director effective July 1, 2017.

Gregor is a professor in the Computer Science Department and has over 30 years’ experience in computer science research. Prior to coming to UBC in 2000, Gregor worked at the MIT Lab for Computer Science and the Xerox Palo Alto Research Center. His early research at MIT and Xerox focused on computer supported learning environments.

As part of UBC's commitment to expanding Career and Personal Education, UBC Continuing Studies has been renamed UBC Extended Learning.

UBC Extended Learning will build on the strengths of Continuing Studies and continue to provide lifelong learning to a wide range of learners, with an enhanced mission to work with UBC faculties in providing career and personal education opportunities.

This June, UBC Sauder School of Business will expand its range of professional development programs in the areas of digital communications, technology and project management when a number of business related programs will be transferred to the school from UBC Continuing Studies.

Yesterday, the Vancouver Senate approved the evolution of Continuing Studies (CS) into a new unit called UBC Extended Learning (UBC ExL), effective July 1, 2017.
 
UBC ExL will build on the strengths of CS and continue to provide outstanding flexible learning experiences, but with an extended mandate to support faculties in growing and expanding UBC’s offerings related to Career and Personal Education (CPE).

Best of Vancouver 2016 WinnerFor the third year in a row, UBC has been voted "Best college/school/university for continuing education" in The Georgia Straight's 21st annual Best of Vancouver awards.

This year, UBC has also been voted "Best place to learn a new language."
