Graduate, UBC Certificate in Aboriginal Health and Community Administration
"What stands out for me most about going back to school is how far I've come in such a short period of time," reflects Jennifer Claxton, a recent graduate of the UBC Certificate in Aboriginal Health and Community Administration.
Jennifer had previously worked at a golf course in Victoria, but when she started an administration job in the Health Department of Tsawout First Nation it was a real turning point in her career. "I had always been interested in a career in health care, and it was a bonus to have the opportunity to work in the community where I was raised."
After a few months in her new position, Jennifer enrolled in the UBC program to broaden her knowledge of the Aboriginal health field. As a working mother, it was appealing that the program is delivered online with residency weekends at UBC in Vancouver.
"It was inspiring to come together with the other students and learn how we can best support and improve health care in our communities," comments Jennifer.
