Paloma E. Villegas was born in Guadalajara Mexico. She is currently enrolled in the doctoral program in Sociology and Equity Studies in Education at OISE/University of Toronto. Her research interests include migration and globalization using an anti-racist feminist perspective. Her dissertation examines migrant illegalization—the process of creating ideas and beliefs about migrants as “illegal”—in relation to Mexican migrants living in Toronto, Canada. This process includes not only immigration officials and government representatives but everyday institutions and individuals, resulting in material effects for those involved. She has taught a course on Migration and Transnationalism at the University of Toronto and enjoys engaging with students on this topic. Paloma also enjoys jewelry making in her free time.
