Leanne Kelly is Metis, originally from the QuÂ’Appelle Valley in Saskatchewan.  The youngest of seven children of Rose Amyotte and Alex Poitras, both families in which the Metis roots run deep.  Leanne graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a BA and BSN in 1989.  Travelling to the west coast in 1995 brought new opportunities and the chance to complete a Masters of Nursing from the University of Victoria.  Leanne has continued to develop her community health nursing and teaching experience with her long term employment with Cowichan Tribes in Duncan BC.  She is currently a sessional instructor with the University of Victoria, works full time with the Cowichan Community, is a clinical instructor for UBC Faculty of Medicine and very active in her home community of Ladysmith developing family resource programs and policy resources.
