English Language Institute
Andrew Scales has been working at the English Language Institute since 1996. He joined as an assistant coordinator, then moved into the position of academic director before assuming his current role as director.
He represents UBC Extended Learning in the international English language teaching industry, and regularly presents at national and international conferences. Andrew has written many articles on English language teaching and a textbook (in 3 editions), on information communication technology.
While at UBC, Andrew has initiated and developed a range of EAL, ESL, and EFL programs, including English for the Global Citizen, English for Academic Purposes, and the Vancouver English Experience Program.
He is also a former director of the UBC Centre for Intercultural Language Study, where he continues to serve as an advisory committee member.
Andrew has a BA (Hons) from the University of Wales, an MA from the University of London, and a diploma in English language teaching from the University of Cambridge.
